NEWS/The Cairo Jazz Festival Kicks Off

The long awaited Cairo Jazz Festival kicked off yesterday, March 13, at Al-Azhar Park in Cairo. The three-day festival features some of the best local and international artists from around the world.


With a focus on celebrating diversity, cultivating an interest in culture and music, and educational outreach, the International Cairo Jazz Festival brings artists from around the world each year to Egypt’s capital for three days of music appreciation and cultural exchange, The Ethnomusicology reported.

This year marks the festival’s 6th edition, since it was founded in 2009 by Egyptian composer and pianist Amr Salah. This year’s festival includes: The Jakub Urban Trio featuring Noha Fekry (Czech Republic and Egypt), Uss W Laz2 (Egypt), Kaz Okumura Trio featuring Michelle Rounds (Japan and Australia) and Massar Egbari (Egypt) Vein from Switzerland, Madina (Egypt), Holler My Dear (Austria), Sylvain Beuf Electric Eccentric (France), Soweto Kinch featuring Arabian Nights and Arab League All Stars (UK and Egypt), Daerr-Bica-Stick (Germany) and Oum (Morocco). Dina El-Wedidi (Holland, Egypt), Nabil Khemir (Tunsia), Andre Carvalho Group (Portugal), Rami Attallah Group (Egypt), and Mashrou’ Leila featuring Soweto Kinch (Lebanon and UK). This amazing line up ends with a concert featuring the famous Omar Khairat on March 16.

The Cairo Jazz Club will host some of the visiting artists at its venue in Agouza for a series of Beyond Stage performances after the concerts end in Al-Azhar Park, The Daily News reported.
