NEWS/Summer Season Satisfaction

This year’s summer is sure to be filled with mesmerizing festivals and fresh memories; Abu Dhabi’s annual Summer Seasons celebration is certain to make sure of this. Just around the corner and ready to burst open with brand new acts unique to 2014, the performances and activities will span across the entire Emirate region, making this one of the largest events to date.

This year, the celebration is working in collaboration with DNATA, Etihad Airways, and a multitude of other companies within the Emirates in order to offer it’s visitors extra special deals and promotional offers within over 15 malls, hotels, and attractions that will create locally produced summer activities distinct to each area.

As it started on June 5th and ends on August 31st, this three month celebratory extravaganza extends from early summer into the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr and will showcase artists and musicians both locally and internationally. The 2014 lineup will feature performances by artists from the Middle East, Russia, and the U.S.A. Residents and curious tourists will be bombarded with a mix of international theatre, world-renowned Ballet performances by the Royal Moscow Ballet Company, and film premieres.

For the World Cup or football enthusiast, the Du Forum (which used to be known as the Flash Forum), an indoor entertainment venue on Yas Island*, will be converted into a FIFA 2014 World Cup viewing area. From June 12th until July 14th, an audience of over 800 people will be able to watch this international football competition on a 6 by 4 meter LED screen.

Working closely with the British Museum and world network BBC, an exhibition entitled “The History of the World in 100 Objects” will begin on April 23rd and end on August 1st, lasting 100 days. Featuring Neil Macgregor, the British Museum’s director, this fascinating display will explain the Middle East’s role within the creation of 100 of the world’s most historically significant objects.

Local Al Ain Zoo will have guests partake in a multitude of family oriented activities. Beginning on June 1st, the Night Photography competition had visitors on their toes snapping pictures of the Zoo’s beautiful nocturnal creatures and every Wednesday on Zoovie night, families are able to enjoy a movie in the cool summer evenings accompanied by a picnic.

With so many activities and things to do, the Abu Dhabi Summer Season can only be described appropriately through the words of Sultan Al Dhaheri, the Acting Director of Abu Dhabi’s TCA, ““It will be an unforgettable summer season for visitors and residents who choose to spend their summers here. We aim to make Abu Dhabi a yearlong destination for tourists. It is the first time you would see such a wide range of events and the season would only grow in the coming years.”
