After the outstanding night with Lang Lang at the opening ceremony, the legendary Lebanese Oud virtuoso, vocalist and composer Marcel Khalife was there at Byblos International Festival with all his talent and brought to the audience a stunning Thursday evening. The first night witnessed an extraordinary performance of the “ hottest artist on the classical music planet “ according to the New York Times, Lang Lang played passionately Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no.2 and a selection of solo pieces by Chopin, accompanied by the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra under the conduction of the maestro Darrell Ang.

While Marcel Khalife’s concert began with a brief piece performed by his accompanists - the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra and the maestro Harout Fazlian, Al-Mayadine Ensemble and the choirs of Notre Dame and Antonine Universities. For two hours, the audience enjoyed his come-back to Byblos where he wrote his first lyrics and his first song was made

While playing, Khalife kept his eyes shut most of the time, suggesting the intensity with which he feels the music he pulls from his instrument. His playing clearly drew a lot of emotion and nostalgia from his audience over the evening. It was a touchy night!
